Arsenal offer for £40m star could ‘finally land’ at the Emirates

Arsenal could complete a deal to sign Youri Tielemans this week if they launch an offer for the midfielder, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Gunners have been chasing the Belgium international throughout the summer window and Jones reckons that Mikel Arteta could finally get his man in the coming days.

What’s the latest news involving Tielemans?

Arteta’s side might have made an outstanding start to the new campaign, which has seen them win their opening three matches for the first time since 2004-2005, but the Spaniard is still hoping to add to his five signings before next week’s deadline.

One of those is Tielemans, who’s Arsenal’s top midfield target, although the Gunners are yet to officially launch a bid for the 25-year-old.

However, Tielemans was left out of the Leicester starting XI for their weekend defeat to Southampton after Brendan Rodgers confirmed he wasn’t in the ‘right frame of mind’ to play amid increased speculation surrounding his future.

When asked why he didn’t start, he said: “One, a change in system and two, I mentioned in the week, we’re coming into a Premier League game and maybe we’ve got players who are maybe not quite in the right frame of mind.”

And Jones reckons a deal could move quickly if Arsenal finally make an offer and meet Leicester’s valuation of the player, which has been quoted at £40m earlier in the window.

What did Jones say about Tielemans?

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Brendan Rodgers knows that Tielemans is still seeking a move to a bigger club, so he was trying to protect his team by leaving him out.

“It didn’t really work out, but I am told he could still leave this week if the offer from Arsenal finally lands.”

What is Tielemans’ contract situation?

Part of the reason why Tielemans is attracting so much attention this summer is because he’s recently entered the final year of his contract at the King Power Stadium.

Tielemans signed for Leicester from Monaco in 2019 but is yet to sign a contract extension despite his impressive contribution for the Foxes, meaning this window is the final chance they have to receive a suitable fee.

Therefore, Arsenal could take advantage of his deal moving towards its expiry date and sign him for a cut price fee before the window closes, providing Leicester are happy to offload him to prevent a situation where he leaves for nothing in 2023.
